Melissa- Luminary Procession

I thought this procession was tricky to photograph. I couldn't get the shutter to fire faster than 1/15 and still get enough light into the scene and sort of freeze the movement as well. It's grainy in the dark areas from the high ISO. Also I kept getting these weird glowing orbs around the street lights.

Thought this might be a good one for the worst photo. Think my shutter speed might have been a little to slow.

Deana's Travel junk drawer

1/60 ~ f 5.6 ISO 125 I found that if I had this a little bright in the color exposure it made the black and white look better. Attempted to take shot indoors, and then went outside and found the lighting was much better (thanks Barb) which made the color in the color really pop.

I guess I'm drawn to patterns. I liked the symmetry of it and the texture/shadows. Maybe I should have cropped out the dark areas at the top? Although I liked the rounded shape of the top.

I chose this because of its interesting pattern and thought I could get some contrast with a white background. Not sure that I like the way it's framed with the edges cropped off...I debated back and forth. It was a challenge getting the shot since my 18 month-old kept grabbing it away!

This was taken on this past Sunday afternoon. I liked the way the sun created the different shadows and textures as it shining in from the side. F2.8, 1/160, ISO 100

I've often heard my photography instructor tell us to "break the rules" so I did, by not really doing the assignment for the week. I did not find anything interesting close to the doorway or a junk drawer. I love the flexibility of a lens that opens to an F2.8 for the blurred backgrounds. Playing in a mud puddle

Sunday was 70 degrees and thinking a beautiful day, easy day for photos. Well it was difficult to find something when you are looking tooooo hard. At the last minute we decided on downtown Olympia and I found a mud puddle! Too Fun!!!. I shot both with ISO of 125. The walker with F~8 and 1/200. Just the puddle was f-11 and 1/100. Not the assignment, but had fun.

I took this with my new lens out the hotel window in Portland last weekend. The cloud reflections on the building were very cool! I think they are interesting in B & W also. Even though I only have i photo, I was able to play with the contrast and saturation to get this effect!

Melissa- Gas Station 1910-2010

I've been obsessed with getting a good photo of this old gas station ever since seeing the hand painted sign on the carport, which reads "1910 built for cars 2010 torn down for cars". It's scheduled for demolition next week for a road-widening project, and I thought it would make a great black and white. I was hoping to take a photo in sunny weather this weekend, but the side got torn off the building today, so I'm not sure if it will last until the weekend. If it does, I'm going to try to get a higher contrast photo and I'll post it along side this one.

Well, this isn't 10' from my door, we spent the weekend at a dance competition where I had just gotten done helping put a prop together when I saw this dancer watching back stage and thought it would be a nice shot. I took it in color but I think the b&w conversion works pretty well.

This is another beach-combing pile. These are sandstones with holes in them. I thought the one in the front looked like it was trying to say something.

Ok, this isn't saying I won't come up with a worse shot this week, but here's my entry. And the sad thing is I wasn't trying for a bad photo here.

That is my tripod on the left hand side of the frame, so yes this was a handheld shot. Barbra, technically you can't say I wasn't "using" my tripod!

Ok, this one doesn't really "count" since I wasn't using a tripod and it was moving, but my kids were playing with a caterpillar the other day so I took a couple pictures of it.

This is a close-up photo. I tried to close my aperture down as much as possible without underexposing the image to limit the blurring related to DOF.

This is about the best I could do without a Macro, It's moss growing on the side of a step outside our backdoor. Guess I need to get the pressure washer out. 1/60, F11, ISO 100, about 8-10 inches away.

This is almost exactly 10 feet from my front door.  Probably the most interesting item out there at this time of year.

I tried many shots of the junk drawer, and took things out of it as well. This is the one that I liked the best.

Dave W - Close-Ups

Junk drawer, wow, I don't even know what some of this is! But, I like the colors and the layers of stuff.
I ended up laying on the ground, trying to take the perfect flower picture. I went for the Rhodies first but they didn't have a very rich color, I ended up here with the nice purples with the blurred background.
