Landscapes: Breaking the Rules

Here's the landscape photo from the parking lot at SPSCC Hawks Prairie that Barbra asked us to post. 

Here's the best "breaking the rules" photo from this week's landscape assignment.  I seldom take photos from the ditch.  This also is a more "in your face" image than I usually take. I chose the scene because of the lovely old cat tails right up against the front of the frame.

  1. Like the angle and capture of the various Cattails 'characters'. Do you think slithering in the ditch a little to the left and framing the shot so ALL the Cattail heads were contrasted against the dull gray sky would enhance the image. Do the vertical lines of the cattail stalks get lost in the vertical lines of the trees? Would the image have more impact if there was more contrast and separation between dominant focal point and background? Squint your eyes and look at the negative and positive space. What do you see? What would you change?
